Following his arrest, Justice Binta Nyako, of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the leader of IPOB Nnamdi Kalu, should be remanded in the custody of DSS as his trial begins on July 26, 2021.
Justice Nyako gave the ruling after Kanu was paraded before the court on Tuesday after his arrest.
Abubakar Malami (SAN), Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, had told journalists on Tuesday, that Kanu was arrested and brought back to Nigeria on Sunday.
He said the arrest followed a collaborative effort between security agencies in Nigeria and Interpol.
Malami further disclosed that Kanu would be taken before the Federal High Court in Abuja for the continuation of his trial on charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms and management of an unlawful society.
The IPOB leader is facing charges of treasonable felony against him at the federal high court, Abuja. This is in respect to his involvement in the secessionist IPOB movement.
Prior to his arrest, Kanu had been in the United Kingdom, from where he broadcasted on Radio Biafra.
Before he left Nigeria for the UK, he was arrested in 2015 for treasonable offences against the government of Nigeria.
