Multiple media reports have said that the Nigerian Government has succeeded in the arrest of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.
Reports by many media outlets claimed that Abubakar Malami (SAN), Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, who made the disclosure to journalists on Tuesday, revealed that Kanu was arrested and brought back to Nigeria on Sunday.
He said the arrest followed a collaborative effort between security agencies in Nigeria and Interpol.
Malami further disclosed that Kanu would be taken before the Federal High Court in Abuja for the continuation of his trial on charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms and management of an unlawful society.
Elendu Reports has not been able to independently confirm this development.
Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the lawyer to Kanu when contacted by our reporter when the story broke said it was not true.
The IPOB leader is facing charges of treasonable felony against him at the federal high court, Abuja. This is in respect to his involvement in the secessionist IPOB movement.
Prior to his arrest, Kanu had been in the United Kingdom, from where he broadcasted on Radio Biafra.
Before he left Nigeria for the UK, he was arrested in 2015 for treasonable offences against the government of Nigeria.
He remained in custody until 2017 when he was granted bail on health basis
