According to the final results of Sierra Leone’s presidential election announced by the commision for Sierra Leone (ECSL) on Tuesday, incumbent President Julius Maada Bio of the ruling SLPP was re-elected with 1,566,932 votes or 56 percent of the valid votes cast.
Dr Samura Kamara of the main opposition APC came second with 1,148,262 or 41.16 percent of the votes cast.
Eleven other candidates received a combined vote of less than 3 percent.
A candidate required 55 percent of valid votes to win the first round, otherwise, the two frontrunners go into a run-off vote, which is unnecessary in this case going by the ECSL announcement.
