MUHAMMAD Musa Bello, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Thursday visited victims and places affected by violent clashes between anti and pro-SARS protesters in parts of Abuja, the nation’s capital.
While commiserating with victims of the protests over their losses, the Minister appealed for maintenance of the prevailing calm in the FCT and promised to constitute a compensation committee that would look into grievances of those affected.
He called on stakeholders in the FCT to form a united front for peaceful coexistence, even as he urged the youths to give peace a chance and always engage all agencies of Government through dialogue for the resolution of all issues.
Bello was accompanied on the visits by the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, FCT Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, Chairmen of the Area Councils led by AMAC Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Adamu Candido, traditional leaders, and others.
It would be recalled that the ENDSARS protest by Nigerian youths demanding for a to police brutality in the country took a turn for the worst on Monday in Abuja when it degenerated into violence claiming lives and properties in some parts of the nation’s capital.
Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) had in the wake of the protest announced the dissolution of the controversial and brutal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
President Mohammadu Buhari also indicated commitment that there would be extensive reforms in the police citing the disbandment of SARS as the first step.
