NIGERIANS have taken to the Social Media to express their disappointment over the content of President Muhmmadu Buhari’s nationwide broadcast Thursday evening describing it as empty and lacking empathy for victims of Lekki shooting.
President Buhari had in his speech said that the voice of the protesters demanding an end to police brutality ‘ has been heard loud and clear’, urging them to discontinue the protest.
But reacting to the broadcast shortly after it was aired, Nigerians said they were shocked at the shallow nature of the speech which they had expected would touch on the shootings at Lekki and also punishment for those involved.
A Twitter user, Kelechukwu Iruoma tweeted that the speech lacked condolences for those who lost their lives during the protest.
Why did he start that speech with ’it has become necessary’??? Who writes speech for these people. And he didn’t even say anything about the Lekki attack, said another Twitter user with the name, FineApple.
According to Banjo Damilola, the president did not say anything despite spending 12 minutes to give the speech.
“Buhari did not say anything. A speechless speech! Lifeless, uninspiring and void of empathy. What is this country?” she wrote.
On his part, Fisayo Soyombo, popular Nigerian investigative journalist simply asked a question.
“So the President spoke for 12 minutes and he didn’t mention Lekki?, Soyombo said.
Watching this address and I can’t believe this person is our president. How could we stoop this low? Hearing him is enough to cause a headache, Lord, Oyin Komolafe wrote.
