Zindzi Mandela, the youngest daughter of South Africa’s first black president Nelson Mandela has died aged 59, local media reported Monday.
She was the South African Ambassador to Denmark at the time of her death.
“The 59-year-old daughter of former president Nelson Mandela and struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, passed away at a Johannesburg hospital in the early hours of this morning,” said public broadcaster SABC.
Pule Mabe, spokesman for the governing African National Congress, described her death as “untimely”.
“She still had a role to play in the transformation of our own society and a bigger role to play even in the African National Congress,” Mabe said, adding further details would be provided in due course.
There was no immediate statement by the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
The cause of her death was not immediately revealed.
