Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Saturday paid a surprise visit to a market in Ikenne, Ogun State and home town of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
The number two man, who was bombarded with several demands by traders on challenges facing them especially the high cost of goods, promised to see to the reconstruction of the market.
According to a tweet on his twitter’s handle, @ProfOsinbajo, on Saturday’s evening, the VP said, “Today, I made a surprise stop at Ikenne market, Ogun State after attending Reverend Adebajo’s 75th birthday event. The market is to be reconstructed.”
The tweet which was accompanied by a short video footage on what transpired during the visit to the market, saw one of the market women telling Osinbajo to ensure the shops are not taking away from them when reconstructed.
The woman, who spoke in Yoruba language, said she doesn’t want the government officials to tell them ‘it is order from above’ after the market has been reconstructed.
It would be recalled that this is not the first time Osinbajo is visiting a market to feel the pulse of market women and buyers. In May 2017, he visited Garki market, Abuja, where he also interacted with traders.
