THE 2019 Presidential election held on February 23,2019 has produced a mixed bag of results for the two major political parties and their candidates.
Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mohammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress (APC) are the major contenders.
The former was vice president of Nigeria while the latter is the incumbent president.
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared results from 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory. From results declared by INEC officials in the states, and 13 states declared at Abuja, the following trends are showing.
Atiku Abubakar is underperforming Goodluck Jonathan’s showing in the South East and South South zones in the 2015 elections. Muhammadu Buhari is performing better in these zones than he did in the 2015 presidential election.
Muhammadu Buhari is underperforming his showing in the 2015 elections in the following states: Plateau, Adamawa, Benue and Ondo states. These are states he won in 2015 and is on course to lose these states to Atiku Abubakar and the PDP.
In the South East and South South, the candidate of the APC is doing better than he did in the 2015 presidential election. For instance, in Enugu and Abia states,Buhari scored 54,000 and 85,000 votes respectively in 2019.
In 2015 presidential election, Buhari scored about 5000 and 13,000 votes in Enugu and Abia respectively.
Elendu Reports have been watching the results as they come in from the states and National Collation Centre. While the trend is clear, we shall refrain from making a projection until the data in our possession is thoroughly analysed.
