Edison Ehie, the majority leader of the Rivers house of assembly, has been removed.
Ehie, a loyalist of Similanyi Fubara, governor of Rivers, was removed Monday morning to pave the way for the impeachment of his principal.
Ehie was said to have frustrated initial move to commence impeachment proceeding against Fubara, who succeeded Nyesom Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), less than six months ago.
Fubara and Wike have reportedly fallen out.
Earlier, loyalists of Fubara stormed the assembly complex amid the alleged plot to remove him.
The governor’s men were seen chanting songs in indigenous language.
Surrounded by some gun-wielding security operatives, they marched across the complex, causing commotion.
There are reports that Fubara is also within the assembly complex but Daily Trust could not confirm this as of the time this report was filed.
It was reported that house members flee for safety as tear gas is fired outside the assembly complex.
