Humphrey Nwosu, chairman of the defunct National Electoral Commission (NEC) that conducted the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election is among the top personalities invited by President Muhammadu Buhari to witness the conferment of Grand Commander Order Of The Federal Republic (GCFR) on late Moshood Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the election.
Others that were invited included Frank Ovie Kokori and Jonathan Zwingina,Director General of Hope 93.
President Buhari will on Tuesday June 12, confer the Nigeria’s highest honour on late MKO Abiola and also give the award of Grand Commander Order of the Niger (GCON) to his running mate Ambassador Babagana Kingibe.
In a message, on Friday, Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), said the President would use the opportunity of the gathering at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, to also formally declare June 12 as the nation’s Democracy Day and confer the awards on Abiola, Kingibe and the late Chief Gani Fawehimi.
Members of the SDP and those who were at the vanguard of the June 12 struggle topped the lists of dignitaries expected to grace the Tuesday event.
Those invited to the occasion are members of the National Executive Committee of the SDP, including States Chairmen and Secretaries at the time of June 12, 1993, Governors elected under SDP platform, former Senate Presidents, Iyorchia Ayu and Ameh Ebute as well as Speaker Agunwa Anekwe along with Principal Officers of the National Assembly elected under SDP platform.
Others are Speakers of the States Assembly elected under SDP platform, all Chairmen of the States traditional Councils from the six South-Western States, Professor Wole Soyinka, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, Ms. Ayo Obe, Bayo Onanuga of the The News magazine, Kunle Ajibade of Tempo magazine, Nosa Igiebor of Tell magazine and Kayode Komolafe of the Media Hope 93.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker Yakubu Dogora, Principal Officers of the National Assembly, members of the Federal Executive Council and all State Governors are also invited.
