Tragedy struck again at the weekend, when some unknown gunmen killed A.M Linus, a Master Warrant Officer of the Nigerian Army, alongside his wife to be, while on their way to Imo State on Saturday.
Although no group has owned up to the murder, it was gathered from military sources that the woman was first raped before she was shot dead along with her fiancé.
The duo were later beheaded.
The source said the couple were travelling to the state to formalise their traditional marriage rites when the incident happened, adding that the criminals made a video of the incident and circulated it online.
The incident marks the latest in the series of attacks on security operatives in the South East.
The differences between the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN), its armed wing, have been partly blamed for the unrest in the region.
Elendu Reports had reported that the sit-at-home directive by IPOB observed every Mondays is also taking a toe on the social and economic activities in the region.
Prior to the emergence of Prof. Chukuma Soludo as governor of Anambra State, there had been attacks allegedly ochestrated by IPOB, one of such culminating in the murder of the husband of the former Director General of NAFDAC and former Minister of Information and Communications, Dr Chike Akunyili.
