FORMER NTA sports caster and reporter, Akinloye Oyebanji is dead.
He died today, Saturday July 27 at about noon. He had been receiving treatment at the National Hospital, Abuja, for kidney problems.
The ace sports caster was supposed to travel to India for treatment but he became too ill and had to be rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja.
Akinloye shot to fame as a young sports reporter man in the 80’s. He was known for incisive reporting and mastery of different sports.
As a commentator, his passion for Nigerian teams was unequal as he calmly took his audience through the matches, oftentimes giving viewer a real feel of the game.
Outside the commentary booth, fans felt, despite his huge fame, like they had a personal knowledge of his emotions, as he is known to shed a few tears when Nigerian teams are not doing well.
He reported and ran commentaries of the biggest sports events, including the Olympics, World Cups, African Cup of Nations, international athletic championships, etc.
Akinloye Oyebanji retired a few years ago as managing director of NTA properties.
