The Finnish government says it has instructed security agencies in the government to arrest Simon Ekpa within 48 hours if he fails to retract the sit-at-home order in south-east Nigeria.
Simon Ekpa is a Nigerian-Finnish lawyer known for spreading fake news and allegedly inciting violence in southeastern Nigeria.
Sanna Mirena Marin, the Prime Minister of Finland, in a letter on Thursday, said Ekpa will be arrested and prosecuted if he failed to reverse the calls for sit-at-homes at the time Nigeria is approaching general elections.
Marin said she has directed Raija Toivianinen, the attorney-general to ensure that the directive was immediately carried out.
She explained that the action follows complaints by the Nigerian government and Nigerians in Finland against Ekpa’s pronouncements using social media outlets to incite hatred and sit-at-homes.
