The Rivers state commission of inquiry into the brutality of the Nigerian Police Force, particularly, the disbanded special anti-robbery squad, SARS, against innocent citizens commenced sitting on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The inaugural sitting which commenced at exactly 11 am at the Obi Wali international conference centre is expected to submit its report to the state government in 60 days.
Chairman of the Commission, Justice Chukwueneye Uriri, retired said that the commission has so far received a total of 171 petitions across the board.
In his quick reaction, chairman, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Port Harcourt branch, Prince Nyekwerre said the #Endsars protest was targeted at bad governance in Nigeria and not against any particular person.
“The #EndSARS was targeted at bad governance. The Commission should give the process the attention it deserves,” he said.
Nyekwerre also warned the government not to play ” games” with the report of the Commission, adding that the Bar would do everything within its reach to make the job easy.
