Attahiru Bafarawa, former governor of Sokoto State says President Muhammadu Buhari was his student because, according to him, he introduced the President into politics.
Bafarawa stated this at the weekend at his residence in Sokoto after he formally declared his intention to run for the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Noting that “Politics is his profession that he has been involved for over 40 years as a grassroots politician, he said President Buhari was his political student.
“President Buhari is my student. I brought him into politics. I gave him ticket to contest when I was the national chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party. Therefore I know how to run the affairs of the country and the party.”
Bafarawa, a one-time presidential candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), said the problem of Nigerians was allowing unprofessional politicians to run democratic government.
This, he explained, was why there is total disregard to the manifesto of the party by political leaders.
He added that Nigerians were calling for restructuring because of the way and manner APC government was running the affairs of the country.
He explained that he delayed his declaration despite persistent calls from across the country because of the situation in the country and his party.
Earlier, Bafarawa told his supporters that he decided to contest because of his love for the people of the state but not because of PDP.
He however, urged them to unite in his support irrespective of their political differences.
