The United Progressive Party (UPP), an opposition party says the state of the nation is bad as it marks its 57 independence anniversary noting that the situation requires a revolutionary agenda.

In a statement issued on Friday, Ogbuehi Dike, National Publicity Secretary of the party said such agenda will put the nation back on the path of rectitude and development.

While felicitating with Nigerians over the independence anniversary which he says demands a sober reflection, Dike notes that God has kept Nigeria united despite series of threatening challenges.

He said, “We thank God for keeping Nigeria united despite unprecedented military intervention, civil war, political upheavals, economic recession, religious tensions, terrorism, Boko Haram insurgency, militancy, kidnappings, armed robberies and social injustice that breed agitations and secession in some parts of the country.

The occasion calls for sober reflection on the vision of the nation’s founding fathers who labored for a Federal Republic of Nigeria based on the principles of democracy and social justice.

At 57, the state of the nation is bad and requires a revolutionary agenda as propounded and articulated by the United Progressive Party to put it on the path of rectitude and development”.

He however, condemns the recent deployment of the military in the South East which according to him has caused a lot of controversy ‘which is not good for our democracy and the unity of this country’.

“The party calls on the Federal Government to review it in the interest of peace, stability, unity and progress of the nation”.
