The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has unveiled Hadiza Mohammed, as its vice presidential candidate.
At the unveiling in Abuja, Chekwas Okorie, the presidential candidate of the party said the event came behind schedule due to the failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) to obey a court ruling on the leadership of the party, among others.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission refused to comply with this judgment. Chief Edozie Njoku, the authentic National Chairman of APGA suffered a lot of persecution, including an undeserved two-day incarceration at the notorious Suleja Correctional Centre,” Okorie said.
“The intention of his undeserved incarceration was to break his will and force his surrender. But this man of history, a man with the lion’s heart stood firm on the path of justice.
“As we speak Chief Edozie Njoku has not only been affirmed but reaffirmed to the third degree by the Supreme Court of Nigeria as the authentic, indisputable National Chairman of APGA duly elected at the Party’s convention held at Owerri, Imo State, on May 31, 2019.”
Chief Okorie who described his running mate as an accomplished personality with sound education and varied academic exposure, said she is an employer of labour who has established striving enterprises in Nigeria and abroad.
“Hajia Hadiza Mohammed is a virtuous woman and a mother of very successful and upwardly mobile children stressing that her nuclear family is exemplary in all considerations,” he said.
Speaking on the choice of Jonathan Elendu as his campaign Director General, Okorie noted that his rich profile shows his wide experience and knowledge as a publisher, author, poet, and public affairs analyst both in Nigeria and many countries.
He expressed confidence that the party’s manifesto would resonate and introduce fresh and exciting new narratives to the proposed governance agenda and progressive ideological thrust if given the mandate.
In her acceptance speech, Hadiza Mohammed called on all Nigerian women to join and vote for APGA to empower women and deliver good governance.
“APGA is the only party that can give women, including Northern women the liberal opportunity to explore their political potential without financial or sexual exploitation,” she said.
She said APGA has currently and previously proven that they respect gender equality in Nigerian political experiments.
On his part, the Presidential Campaign Director General for the party, Jonathan Elendu said the country’s democracy has been fraught with injustices and serious sabotage by people who ought to be staunch defenders of the nation’s collective heritage.
He said Nigeria required rescue from the clutches of bad governance that made development of the country and its people almost a mirage.
