The Nigerian Senate has directed Ibrahim Idris, Inspector General of Police, to immediately restore the security details attached to ,Willie Obiano, Governor of Anambra State withdrawn a few days to the state’s governorship elections.
This followed a point of order raised by Emmanuel Bwacha (Taraba South, PDP) who condemned the sudden withdrawal of the security details of the governor.
Bwacha also warned that if action is not taken, the trend will spiral into a phenomenon that would portent danger to Nigeria’s democracy.
Supporting the motion, Biodun Olujimi also condemned the reported withdrawal of the governors security aids and called for an immediate reinstatement.
In his remarks, Bukola Saraki, Senate President while sustaining the voice votes in favour of the issue raised, directed teh Senate Committee on Police Affairs to ensure compliance and report back to the senate on the next legislative day.
The lawmakers took turns to condemn the police boss for claiming that the security men were withdrawn to allow a level playing field for all contestants in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State.
