The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Leo Irabor has raised concerns over increasing cases of military personnel ‘aiding and abetting’ terrorists and bandits in the country.
The complaint coming from the Army chief was contained in a letter sent to all commanders of various operations, Elendu Reports learnt.
In the letter, Irabor asked the commanders to sensitise their officers to the implication of collaborating with the enemy.
He specifically raised the incident of a soldier who was arrested by a covert Intelligence Team for allegedly conniving with a confirmed terrorist informant known as Babagana Kura in Bama LGA, Borno State.
“The arrests of these personnel are indicative of inside action that has continued to aid the adversary, pertinently with immediate or potential impact on operations,” he said.
It will be recalled that Lance Corporal Abdullahi Jibrin who is an instructor with the Nigerian Army battalion in Geidam, Yobe State committed suicide after he was arrested for allegedly conniving with Boko Haram insurgents who attacked Yobe communities recently.
Elendu Reports also gathered that several terrorists have been arrested wearing uniforms of military personnel, raising concerns of how they actually access the uniforms.
