The Police Service Commission has approved the recommendation of the Inspector General of Police to suspend Abba Kyari, the super cop indicted in the $1.1million fraud case.
Usman Alkali Baba, the IGP had Sunday morning recommended the immediate suspension of Kyari, who was the head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), from the Service of the Nigeria Police Force over his alleged involvement in a multimillion naira fraud.
Kyari was indicted by the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over an alleged involvement in how a Qatari businessperson was duped of over $1.1 million by Ramonu Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi who is currently being held in the US.
Ikechukwu Ani, the spokesperson of the Commission, said in a statement on Sunday that “Abba Kyari’s suspension took effect from Saturday, July 31st 2021 and would subsist pending the outcome of the investigation in respect of his indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States.”
He stated that the Commission urged the Inspector General of Police to furnish it with information on further development on the matter for necessary further action.
Earlier on Sunday, Frank Mba, police spokesperson announced Kyari’s suspension in a statement issued Sunday morning, noting that his suspension is pending the outcome of an ongoing internal investigation touching on him.
The statement said the IGP, in his letter to the Police Service Commission, dated July 31, 2021, noted that the recommendation for the suspension of the officer, is in line with the internal disciplinary processes of the Force.
