Words of wisdom: And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout saying Jesus Son of David have pity and mercy on me. Mark. 10:47
Life Point: Jesus loves to be merciful!
I believe that mercy must precede healing. My favorite story about mercy and healing is the story of blind Bartimaeus in the Mark 10:46-52. In this passage, Bartimaeus cried out to Jesus , “ Son of David have pity and mercy on me”
I can just imagine the scene . Jesus was on His way somewhere and this man shouted out, Jesus have mercy on me. The crowd urged the blind man to shut up. Quit bothering Him. He doesn’t want to be bothered with you. But this made Bartimaeus all the more determined to have Jesus hear him, so he continued to cry out for Jesus’ mercy. What did Jesus do? He stopped. He could have listened to the crowd and ignored the man, but He responded to the man’s plea for mercy. Jesus healed him.
We don’t cry out for God’s mercy enough. We spend too much time trying to deserve God’s goodness.
In the book of Luke chapter 17:12-19, ten lepers cried out for mercy and they all received healing, but only one came back to give Him thanks. In Matthew 15:22-28, a woman from the Canaanite district said with a loud voice and urgent cry ‘ Have mercy on me , O Lord , Son of David! My daughter is miserably and distressingly and cruelly possessed by a demon’ ! Her daughter was delivered. In Mathew 17:15 , we see a man whose son had epilepsy, and he came to Jesus and said, Have mercy on my son, for he has epilepsy.” Jesus stopped again and cured the boy.
It seems wherever Jesus travelled, somebody asked Him for mercy. In response to them, He stopped talk’s to them and met their needs.
Let me assure you that Jesus will listen to and respond to your cry for mercy just as He did for blind Bartimaeus and many others.
