The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), winner of the Osun State Governorship Election held on Saturday, July 16, 2022.
Adeleke garnered 403 371 votes to send incumbent Governor Gboyega Isiaka Oyetola and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate out of the State House.
The former senator had previously contested the state governorship election against Oyetola and others but lost.
In the election where the table turned against the ruling party and its candidate, Governor Oyetola polled 375,027 votes which were not enough to stop Adeleke from coasting home to victory.
Declaring the PDP candidate Governor-Elect, the Returning Officer of the election, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, said: “I declare that Adeleke Ademola Jackson Nurudeen of PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected.”
Kehinde Atanda of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) came third with 10,104 votes.
A former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, could only manage to poll 2,729 votes.
