The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) says it would be left with no choice than to embark on other measures to seek redress, if the Federal Government failed to within 72 hours cancel the result of the computer based test (CBT) aptitude examination conducted last Friday by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for applicants shortlisted for recruitment in to the Nigeria Police.
CAN has asked the government to cancel the result of the examination taken by over 37,000 police recruits across the country because of the use of Arabic language which it said was part of plans to Islamize Nigeria by the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Police Headquarters said the aptitude test was conducted for the recruits to maintain high professional standard and excellence in the police.
But the Christian umbrella body said the use Arabic language violated the secular nature of the country and asked that another test be conducted within 72 hours.
“The most appropriate action is to cancel the exams and conduct a fresh one devoid of controversies.” CAN said
Bayo Oladeji, the Spokesperson of CAN in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday warned that “the Christian community in Nigeria will have no choice to than embark on other measures to seek redress of this national insult” if the results of the test were not canceled.
According to him, CAN also demands evidence of cancelation of the examination as well as evidence of the withdrawal of Arabic language as a compulsory elective for management science studies in tertiary institutions from National Universities Commission (NUC).
Nigeria with over 180 million population is divided along religious and ethnic lines.
President Muhammadu Buhari has been accused by the Christian body of plans to Islamise the country since 2015 when he became the president.
CAN said it was disappointed at the incessant insensitivity of the Federal Government to the clarion calls by all right thinking Nigerians to stop playing religious kite at the expense of peace and unity of the country.
It said has severally called on President Buhari to overhaul the security committee of the government with a view to balancing religious dichotomy have been falling on the deaf ear. His government has also failed to stop the unending killings by the criminal Fulani herdsmen in some parts of the country especially in the Christian dominated North Central.
The development, it added was a deliberate plan to undermine Christians in the country.
CAN also faulted explanations by JAMB concerning Arabic language that it was used as pre-test, arguing that “Dummies are used for pre -test exams, not actual exams to know if the questions are of good standard.”
“The JAMB explanation does not hold any water at all.” It said
