THE West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, results for school candidates.
The Council said the results of 215,149 candidates, representing 13.98% of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination, are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.
Patrick Areghan, Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC who disclosed this to newsmen on Monday in Lagos stated that cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council for determination in due course.
The Committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates through their various schools, Areghan said.
The breakdown of the result showed that a total of 1, 003,668 candidates representing 65.24 per cent of the 1, 538,445 that wrote the examination, obtained credits in a minimum of 5 credits including English Language and Mathematics.
The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for schools in 2019 was 64.18 %.
According to him, the number of candidates that wrote the examination comprised 780, 660 males and 757, 785 females representing 50.74% and 49.26% respectively.
