The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended the Kaduna-Abuja train services, according to a notice by the corporation on Thursday.
The immediate suspension of the daily train services followed an attack on one of the passengers’ train Wednesday night by bandits who planted explosives on the track and also fire at the train.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, train services have been immediately suspended for the safety of our dear passengers,” NRC wrote on its website on Thursday.
“Efforts are in place to restore service. Further information will follow immediately service is restored.”
Elendu Reports had earlier reported that Shehu Sani, a former senator, said bandits planted an explosive that damaged rail track and shattered the windshield of the train engine.
Sani said “they also opened fire, targeting the Driver and the Tank”. “It happened between Dutse and Rijana stations. “The Driver struggled to move towards Kaduna Rigasa station.”
The former lawmaker said he was on board on Thursday morning when the train “ran over another explosive damaged railings”.
“The train nearly skid off its track, then we miraculously escaped.”
