No fewer than four persons were said to have lost their lives on Tuesday, in Abuja when a combined security operatives allegedly attacked members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria ( IMN ) otherwise known as Shi’ites.
The alleged attack happened while the group members were observing their symbolic Arbaeen Trek.
The incident occurred mainly around Gwarinpa gate near Galadimawa along Kubwa expressway.
Crisis started when armed security agents arrived and started shooting indiscriminately at the crowd in an attempt to break the peaceful procession.
At least four persons have been reportedly killed in the incident while many sustained injuries.
It was gathered that the gun totting security operatives fired at the members of the sect when they were about to round off the annual procession.
The situation led to pandemonium in the area as residents were seen running helter-skelter to avoid being caught up in the shooting spree .
The Secretary of Academic Forum of IMN , Abdullahi Musa confirmed the incident.
He said the security agents took away some dead bodies in the process.
Arbaeen Symbolic Trek is an annual event to mark the fortieth day of the murder of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad who was killed on 10th Muharram.
