The University of Jos has developed an application which is graphical in nature for statistical works, drawing graphs and inferences.
Jabil Yakubu, an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics, University of Jos made this known while making a presentation of UJ Maths Graphing ( UJ-MaGT) to Ogbonnaya Onu, the Minister of Science and Technology, in his office in Abuja.
He said that the Apps was developed to ease the difficulties experienced by student in tertiary institutions in plotting graphs in order to plot research findings accurately.
The apps, he said, “were developed in form of Algorithm Mathematics in order to plot graphs to solve equations in graphics statistics and other fields of mathematics. This app can also be used in Secondary school where students have difficulties in plotting graphs in chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
“The results have been fruitful and we have developed a microchip inform of a calculator that the student can use once they can feed data from the Algorithm.”
Responding, the minister called on Nigerian investors to develop interest in indigenous inventions and creativity to boost productivity and economic development of our nation
Onu revealed that the ministry had commenced the process redirecting our economy with a view to setting standards in commercialization of our inventions, and changing the national consciousness of Nigerians to embrace the Science and Technology as a true driver of the economy.
He added that Science and Technology is playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of humanity and urged Nigerian parents to encourage their wards to develop interest in science and technology, adding that this is one sure way to secure their future.
Onu said that innovators in application must invent ways and means to aid the youths in the field of Mathematics, economics, medicines and other disciplines.
The Minister emphasised that the time has come for Nigerians to key into home -grown technology, as rich economies of the world do not rely on resources but rather anchor their GDP on knowledge-based economy.
