Uche Secondus, National Chairman of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) says this is the time for Nigerians to use their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) to chase out the All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as save Nigeria and her democracy.
Secondus, said this on Saturday while addressing party faithful during the PDP rally at the freedom park in Osogbo, the state capital.
In a statement by Ike Abonyi, his media aide , the PDP Chairman said all hands must be on deck to get the ruling party out of the nation’s political life, while urging the party leadership in Osun State to unite among themselves and return the state to the party where it rightly belongs.
He said said the alleged tyrannical attitude being deployed on democratic institutions like the National Assembly and the opposition would not save the ruling APC from Nigerian voters whom he claimed have been at the receiving end since 2015 and have made up their minds that enough is enough.
Secondus also maintained that no amount of intimidation would deter the PDP from mobilising the people to do away with the APC.
“No amount of antics and harassment will discourage us because we are doing the desires of Nigerians. APC government has destroyed this country and made life meaningless; we have no alternative than to kick them out,” Secondus told the PDP supporters at the gathering.
He further asked the people to use the September governorship election to make a bold statement that Osun State belongs to the PDP.
Meanwhile, the PDP chairman was said to have received more than 8,000 defectors from the ruling APC in the state, including two seating members of the State House of Assembly.
Three top PDP presidential aspirants for the 2019 elections – former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as well as former governors of Jigawa and Kaduna states, Sule Lamido and Ahmad Makarfi, were also at the gathering.
Other party chieftains that graced the rally are serving governors, Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti and Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State.
According to the National Organising Secretary, Colonel Austine Akobundu (rtd), the Osun rally is one of the many mass mobilisation gatherings aimed at receiving returnees to the party as well as to mobilise members into the rebranded PDP ahead of the elections.
