Ibrahim Wakkala, a former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State was among those who sustained gun shots during an attack by terrorists on a Kaduna, Abuja train on Monday evening.
Details of those wounded or abducted were still sketchy, but sources including aides of the politicians confirmed that Wakkala who was returning from the All Progressives Congress (APC) convention held on Saturday in Abuja was abducted during the attack before he was rescued by security forces.
The train conveying about 1000 passengers from Abuja to Kaduna was attacked by terrorists between Katari and Rijana in Kaduna State.
According to Channels Television, an aide to the former Deputy Governor said he was shot during the cross fire between the terrorists and the military and has been moved to a military hospital in Kaduna for treatment.
Yusuf Idris, spokesperson of the APC in Zamfara State, also confirmed the incident to Channels Television.
Idris said the former Deputy Governor was initially abducted by the terrorists during the attack and was successfully rescued by the combined forces of DSS and Military
“He was initially abducted but was rescued by the DSS and military, it was during the process he sustain gunshot injury in the leg.”
“He is very okay now, he is receiving treatment at the hospital in Kaduna state,” Idris added.
Wakkala was the deputy to the former governor, Abdulazeez Yari between 2011 and 2019.
