A group under the auspices of Coalition of Civil Society Organisation (CCSO) has lamented the the refusal of the Senate to confirm Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) Board nominees has crippled the operation of the Bureau.
Abu Ibrahim, its Secretary, while addressing a press conference in Abuja, said the coalition observed that the Bureau has been without a Board for over one year since the previous Board seizes to exist, adding that the delay in the confirmation and inauguration of the new Board has affected the day-to-day running of the agency.
He lamented that the 2017 budget was approved for the Agency but was not implemented because of the non-confirmation of the Board member nominees by the Senate.
Ibrahim stated: “For instance, we discovered that the non-confirmation will hinder the Agency from printing the Code of Conduct Asset Declaration Form for incoming elected and appointed political officers. And an agency saddled with such enormous responsibility of scrutinizing political office seeker to have its’ Board members inaugurated.
“Again the inability of the Agency to implement the last year’s budget due to the absence of a Board has hindered facilitation of Asset declaration. The forms are not available not because there were no funds but because no approval and supervision,” he said
It therefore called for immediate confirmation of the nominees as further delay would compound the problems currently bedevilling the Bureau.
