A statement by Nnamdi Omoni, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Public Relations Officer of Police in the state said the Commissioner ordered investigation into the matter with a view to unraveling the circumstances that led to her death.
Omoni said Mukan also appealed for calm, pending the outcome of the investigation, promising that the interest of justice must be served in the circumstance.
Meanwhile, the Sergeant who allegedly shot late Eleckwachi has been arrested, disarmed and undergoing Orderly Room Trial, the statement revealed.
It added that two other members of the Task Force have also been arrested and are being questioned.
“The Hilux vehicle belonging to the Task Force has been impounded and the corpse of the Woman Sergeant deposited in the mortuary.”
It would be recalled that the incident occurred on Thursday at Eneka market, Portharcourt, Rivers State when a policeman attached to Governor Nyesom Wike’s COVID-19 task force team allegedly shot a female police officer controlling traffic.
The task force team reportedly came to chase traders who were selling in the market on Thursday amid the lockdown order in the state when the police woman was shot.
