After spending 10 days in London for his vacation, President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Nigeria.
The presidential aircraft touched down on Saturday evening at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Ahead of his arrival, a Guard of Honor was mounted at the airport to receive the President who departed Nigeria for the United Kingdom on August 3.
He is expected to preside over a meeting with the security chiefs on Monday.
Prior to his trip, President Buhari had handed over power to the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, in acting capacity while he was away.
Before taking off in London, President Buhari had put a call through to President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, to sympathise with him on the death of former Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Kofi Annan.
He noted the strategic influence of the diplomat in global affairs and his vision for the repositioning of the West Coast and Africa.
President Buhari added that Kofi Annan’s contributions to global peace will remain in history.
He also said that the exceptional leadership roles, humanitarian spirit, and contributions of the former UN chief to global peace and development would remain permanent in global history, especially his commitments to combating HIV/AIDS in Africa and launch of the UN Global Compact.
Annan died on Saturday morning at the age of 80 in Switzerland after a brief illness.
