THE presidency on Friday reacted to the rumoured marriage of a second wife by President Muhammadu Buhari dismissing it as a mere hoax.
Speculations have been rife in the social media of President’s engagement to Sadia Umar Farouq as second wife.
Farouq, the current Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management has also debunked the rumours, insisting that it was a deliberate plot to spoil her relationship with the first family.
Before Buhari appointed Farouq as Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, she was in charge of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.
Besides her close affinity with the Buhari family, she was believed to be a close political associate of the incumbent President, during the days of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
She took to her Tweeter handle to debunk the rumours, saying, “There have been several speculations in the media regarding marriage between myself and Baba Buhari. I will like to clarify this that me and Baba Buhari have been old time friends and her excellency Aisha is my good friend and a sister. I will like to maintain this good relationship”.
Not satisfied with her explanations, she later followed it up a second time on Tweeter, saying, “Dear Nigerians, please kindly ignore all rumours as this is not true. We are currently completely focussed on making sure we have a better Nigeria, lets continue to pray for our dear country, Nigeria, God bless”.
Meanwhile, a presidency source said on Friday that nothing to suggest that President Buhari will be taking a second wife.
The source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said even if Buhari was to take a second wife, nothing stops him from doing so, as he is a Moslim by faith.
Speaking further, the source said Buhari would not even stoop so low to take a second wife in secrecy.
