Police arrest Lagos pastor over alleged sexual abuse of church member’s daughters

The Lagos state police command says its operatives have arrested the founder and general overseer of a church in the Isolo area of the state over allegations that he sexually abused two daughters of a church member.

Elendu Reports understands that the suspect was arrested following a petition dated July 28, 2026, submitted by the father of the alleged victims.

Following the petition, Fatai Tijani, Lagos commissioner of police, directed the state criminal investigation department (SCID), Yaba, to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations.

A police source said on Wednesday that the suspect allegedly began having sexual intercourse with the petitioner’s eldest daughter when she was 13 years old.

According to the source, the alleged abuse continued until the girl turned 16 and gained admission to a university.

The case reportedly came to light after the pastor allegedly sexually assaulted the petitioner’s younger daughter, aged 14, on two occasions.

The police source alleged that the suspect used manipulative biblical teachings to indoctrinate the younger girl, similar to the method he allegedly employed with her elder sister.

The younger daughter subsequently reported the alleged assaults to her parents.

Following her disclosure, the elder sister also reportedly told their parents that the pastor had allegedly been sexually abusing her since she was 13.

The investigation is being handled by the gender section of the SCID, Yaba, under the supervision of Dayo Akinbisehin, a deputy commissioner of police (DCP).

The police source further disclosed that the general overseer had been apprehended and allegedly confessed to the offences.

“The investigation is ongoing and the General Overseer will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” the source said.

The allegations have not been tested in court, and the suspect remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
