Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State says Nigerian Government must consider investment in the education sector as a measure against insecurity and poverty.
Obi said in a statement by Valentine Obienyem, the issues of insecurity and poverty will be greatly reduced with investment in education.
He was speaking on the heels of the International Day of Education which was observed on Tuesday, January 25.
The former governor said he had always advised governments at all levels to see their financial commitments in the education sector as investments and not expenses.
“Education is the most important tool for the socio-economic, political, scientific and technological advancement of any society, and it is a tool for poverty eradication and human development,” he said.
Obi stressed that the more the government invests in education, the better the economic growth and development the society will record.
This was as he reiterated that “education is the most important investment any nation can make.”
He observed that most of the ills experienced in Nigeria resulted from past and present non-attention to education, adding that governments should always prioritise investment in education.
