Ondo State Government has warned vehicle owners in the state against the indiscriminate use of number customized number plates in the state.
Tobi Ogunleye, Special Assistant on Transportation to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State said in a statement that ” criminals have started using this as a means of perpetuating their nefarious activities in the state”.
“These numbers include but are not limited to the following: NANS, NYCN, NYP, and so on.”
Ogunleye urged motorists and car owners to ensure they have proper documents of the plate number registration to avoid being arrested by security agents.
“Members of the public are therefore enjoined to note that Ondo State Government will no longer tolerate the use of vehicles carrying dealer’s plate numbers and personal customized numbers of whatever sort on their vehicles without accompanying it with documents to support such,” he said.
“Vehicle owners with the aforementioned number plates should always ensure that they go along with all relevant documents to support their registration while driving such vehicles on the road.”
According to him, law enforcement agencies have been mandated to carry out stop and check on all the vehicles with customized plates, noting that those found not to be having proper documentation will face the full wrath of the law.”
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) is charged with the production, designing, and issuing of number plates.
