Kano State government says there is no confirmed case of monkeypox in the state contrary to media report.
Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, Kano State Commissioner of Health, said although the suspected patient had exhibited a symptom of monkeypox, the disease was not ascertained.
Getso who addressed a press conference in Kano on Sunday over news that the disease has been confirmed in the state added that blood sample of the victim had been taken to Dakkar, Senegal for test.
He said, “We are expecting the result in 2-3 weeks.”
He said preliminary investigation indicated that the possibility was more in favour of chickenpox than monkeypox.
He also said the victim was quarantined at Yar Gaya Centre shortly after the ministry received the information about the disease on Thursday.
According to him, 60 persons that had contacts with the victim were identified and are under observation.
