Contrary to media reports, the National Environmental Standards Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) says it was not engaged in any illegal recruitment.
Lawrence Anukam, Director-General of the agency said that the fraudulent acts were carried out by some disgruntled elements bent at tarnishing the image of the agency.
Anukam denied this report in Abuja during a press briefing ahead of the 11th National Stakeholders’ Forum and celebration of NESREA’s 10th anniversary coming up on Tuesday.
He revealed that the fraudsters have many original letter-head papers of many other agencies, including NESREA which they use in duping unsuspected members of the public in the name of helping them to secure employment in federal agencies.
The Director General stated that the culprits have been apprehended adding that the case is already being investigated by the police.

He stated: “We had an issue sometime ago, maybe that is the one they are referring to, where some people were creating recruiters, such a situation where people came here with letters of appointment purportedly signed by us, claiming they wanted to collect final papers for them to be part of the system. We did not sign the letter.
“They used our letter-head papers but the approach of the writings, who signed the paper, is not ours. We formally reported to the police office and the police set up their investigations.
“Luckily for us, they called them, when they searched, one of them is a graduate, they saw letter-head papers of other agencies too, so, it was like a syndicate. So, we will not want to talk more about this because police investigations are on.
