THE National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to confirm Nelson Braimbafa as the substantive Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, National President of NANS, Danielson Bamidele Akpan urged the president to consider appointing Braimbraifa in substantive capacity as he is compiling names of those that would form his cabinet for his second term tenure.
Akpan argued that the acting managing director of NDDC has the capacity and the courage to lead the Commission to higher heights.
He stressed that the Niger Delta region has witnessed peace and development since Braimbraifa took over as the acting managing director of NDDC, noting that bursaries and scholarships have been paid to Niger Delta students across the country.
“As critical stakeholders, our members benefit from social plans of the commission,” he said, “if scholarship and bursaries are regular, undergraduates and entrepreneurs would be assisted.”
“Despite being in acting capacity, Prof. Braimbraifa has been able to integrate and deliver on the mandates of the Commission,”Akpan said.
“Peace has returned to the once tensed region, his ability to dialogue with all stakeholders and laying a solid and effective team teams remains uncompromising.”
Describing him as a round peg in a round hole, the NANS president said the time is now for president Buhari to confirm Braimbraifa’s appointment as his policies and actions have added to the success of the current administration’s effort at reaching rural citizens of Niger Delta region.
He said the association has commenced the collection of signatures of all its members across the country to take to president Buhari for his confirmation.
“We use this medium to appeal to president Buhari to appoint only efficient hands who will help him achieve his policies and fulfil his campaign promises,” he said.
“In complementing his robust programmes in areas of economic empowerment and security, education and provision of infrastructure, especially in the Niger Delta, Prof. Braimbraifa’s confirmation is key to the transformation of the people impacting agency.”
President Buhari in January 2019 approved the appointment of Braimbraifa as acting Managing Director of the Commission.
