The Akwa Ibom State High Court has sentenced Uduak Akpan, the killer of Iniobong Umoren, a job seeker in the state, to death by hanging.
Justice Bassey Nkanang on Thursday sentenced Akpan to death by hanging and life imprisonment on the two charges of murder and rape preferred against him.
The court, however, discharged and acquitted his father, Frank Akpan, and sister, Anwan Bassey (2nd and 3rd accused), who were standing trial for accessory after the fact to murder.
Iniobong Umoren was declared missing on Thursday, April 29, 2021, and was found dead.
According to her friend with the Twitter handle, ‘Happiness Activist @UmohUduak1,’ who had announced that Umoren was in trouble after going for a job interview along the airport road, the late Umoren was ‘killed and buried.’
When he was arraigned, 20-year-old Uduak Akpan, the suspected killer of Iniobong Umoren had on Monday, July 26, 2021 pleaded guilty to the charge of murder and not guilty to the charge of rape brought against him.
Akpan, who was arraigned before an Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo, the state capital, pleaded guilty to the murder of the job seeker whom he lured out of her home with a fake job interview.
