FEMI Gbajabiamila, the preferred candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged the Speaker of the House of Representatives as the 9th National Assembly takes off.
He scored 281 votes to defeat his opponent, Umar Bago who polled 76 votes. There was one invalid vote.
Bago congratulated Gbajabiamila before the counting of votes ended
Gbajabiamila, who is the longest-serving lawmaker in the House, represents Surulere constituency 1 of Lagos State.
The lawmaker, who was endorsed by the All Progressives Congress, has been minority leader and also majority leader.
Earlier, Abdulmumim Jubril moved for the nomination of Gbajabiamila for the position and was seconded by Lynda Chuba Ikpeazu (PDP:Anambra).
