Joseph Daudu, the Coordinator, Rule of Law Development Foundation has berated the Federal Government for not doing enough to avert the Fulani herdsmen menace which has claimed hundreds of lives in many parts of the country.
Daudu made this known at a press conference in Abuja where he addressed the state of the nation.
He said that government’s actions and in-actions were underscored by insincerity, absence of transparency, ethnicity and impunity.
According to him, ” whatever may be the cause, one point is agreed and conceded that government is not doing enough to avert or stem the crisis.”
Daudu noted that the solution lies in ranching cattle, but ranches are built on land and no individual would donate or otherwise given the rich fulani herdsmen their land for nothing.
“Cattle breeding is a business. The Fulani’s can buy land from individuals and communities. We are in a capitalistic society and government must resist the temptation to appropriate other citizen’s ancentral rights over land and just as it over to the herdsmen. ” He said
Dauodu noted that government should however regulate the establishment and uses to which a range could be put, stressing that it is a matter of legislative intervention and an urgent one at that.
