THE Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, says he is ready to leave his office if doing so would help to restore peace and security to the state.
Zamfara State has recently become the killing field for bandits who have been terrorising villagers, killing and abducting them.
This has also been followed by calls for the declaration of a state of emergency by the President in the state in order to restore security.
It would be recalled that former President Olusegun Obasanjo declared a state of emergency in both Plateau and Ekiti states to douse tension after several lives were lost and properties damaged in sectoral and communal clashes.
Following that declaration, the governor and his deputy vacated their offices for an initial period of six months. That move was criticised by some as draconian although it restored peace to Plateau State then.
Yari last week said he is in support of a declaration of a state of emergency in his state.
Speaking with State House correspondents on Thursday in Abuja after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, Yari said ”I was not being political, we are talking about human lives here. If that is what will stop this thing, I am ready to step down, ” he said.
