THE sacked Director General of the Directorate of State Security Service (DSS) Lawal Musa Daura has claimed that he directed officers of the DSS to invade the National Assembly to forestall unauthorised persons from “smuggling dangerous weapons and incriminating items into the National Assembly complex.”
This claim is contained in an interim investigation report sent to the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim K. Idris. The report dated 8th August, 2018 and titled: Interim Investigation Report On Criminal Conspiracy To Wit Trespass, Intimidation And Unlawful Invasion Of National Assembly Complex With Intent Likely To Cause Breach Of Public Peace confirms that the former DG, DSS is still under house arrest in a private house in Garki 11.
According to the report obtained by Elendu Reports, Daura ordered his hooded weapon bearing men to invade the National Assembly Complex without consulting the Acting President or any other law enforcement agency.
The report which was signed by the IGP believes that Daura was “acting the script of highly placed politicians to achieve selfish political goals.” There are claims that the former DG DSS is a personal friend of Senate President, Bukola Saraki. It has also been alleged that Mr. Daura, a kinsman of Pres. Muhammadu Buhari is on the payroll of many opposition politicians including some governors of Peoples Democratic Party.
It is further alleged that the governor of Abia State, Victor Ikpeazu bought a property in Abuja valued at about N700,000,000 for the former DG DSS.
Following the invasion of the National Assembly Complex by the DSS on the morning of 7th August, 2018, the two main political parties in Nigeria, the APC and PDP have been throwing accusations at each other.
The PDP, whose members were gathered at the NASS complex as early as 7am on the fateful day claim that the DSS were deployed by the government to effect a forceful change of the Senate leadership. The APC on the other hand has accused the PDP of using Daura and his men to whip public sympathy for the senate president, Bukola Saraki and anger against the Federal Government. The Police report in our possession supports the APC claim.
The interim report to Prof. Yemi Osibanjo which claims the officers involved in the NASS invasion “acted as hired mercenaries” also requested for all communications gadgets, including computers, mobile phones and all electronic gadgets used by the officers and men of the DSS involved in the operations to be handed over to the police for investigation.
