There are strong indications that the Federal Government may have taken a decision to extradite suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari to the United States of America over his alleged role in conniving with internet celebrity, Abbas Ramon( Hushpuppi) in financial fraud.
Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, gave an insight into government’s plan when he appeared on live interview on Channels Television.
According to the minister, though investigations have not been concluded, there are enough grounds to extradite DCP Kyari to the U.S.
His words: “There are lots of considerations that are ongoing, including the possibility of extradition. That is why the collaboration element comes in. There could be a need for extradition.
“As far as I am concerned, parties are discussing; we are collaborating and there are exchanges of correspondence. Reasonable ground of suspicion has been established and that will eventually translate into prosecution and eventual conviction.
“The position now is that there are prima facie grounds, reasonable grounds for suspicion have been considered from the perspective of prosecution, from the perspective of extradition if the need for it arises.”
Kyari was allegedly indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in an alleged mult-million naira advanced fee fraud perpetrated by Hushpuppi.
While Hushpuppi is languishing in jail in the US following his arrest from the Dubai, Kyari was suspended from duties as Deputy Commissioner of Police pending an investigation into his alleged complicity in the financial crime.
Recall that before his arrest by the US, Hushpuppi was an internet sensation brandishing exotic and expensive goods on social media leaving many speculating as to his real source of wealth.
