… As Several Worshippers Attend Church For Last Sunday of 2020
By Williams Anuku, Abuja
Several persons have been arraigned in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for violating guidelines requiring the mandatory use of face masks.
The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello had last Tuesday, issued new guidelines to curtail the spread of Covid-19 following the second wave of the pandemic ravaging parts of the world.
“Enforcement teams have been mandated to carry out the arrest of violators and prosecute them through the mobile courts system,” he had said.
Those arraigned on Sunday by the FCT Mobile Courts at the Eagle Square, Abuja, were accused of violating the social gathering and face mask rules during the Christmas festivities.
Although the Presidential Task Force on Covid 19, chaired by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha had insisted that all gathering should not be more than 50 persons at a time. Despite this protocol, several churches visited by Elendureports on Sunday, saw worshippers in their numbers attending church programmes.
Some who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Elendureports that today being the last Sunday of the year 2020, they could not afford not to be in church on account of Covid-19.
“The year 2020 had been a turbulent year, especially with the pandemic and you don’t expect me not to go to church to thank God for being alive and to usher in blessings for the incoming year 2021,”our respondent stated.
