Kayode Fayemi, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Saturday Ekiti State governorship election, has won the election. He won the election with 19,338 votes margin at the keenly contested election.
According to results of the 16 local governments released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Feyemi polled197,459 votes while Kolapo Olusola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 178,121 votes.
The former Minister won 12 local governments of the state while his close rival won the remaining four.
Announcing the results of the election, Abel Idowu Olayinka, INEC Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan declared Fayemi as the winner of the election.
He said a total of 909,585 voters registered for the election in the state while 405,861 were accredited on the election day. A total of 384, 954 valid votes were recorded with 18, 857 rejected and 403, 451 as the total vote cast.
Observers said the election was attended by a large turnout of voters and early arrival of the ad hoc staff and supervisors of INEC at polling units.
Voting materials also arrived early in many polling units across the state while voters conducted themselves well during accreditation process.
