FORMER Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 elections, Atiku Abubakar has just finished a closed door meeting with the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
Sources close to both politicians told Elendu Reports that the PDP presidential candidate met with Ekweremadu as part of his consultations to select his running mate for the next year elections.
Ekweremadu, Elendu Reports gathered flew in from Enugu and drove straight to Atiku’s house.
Atiku is said to have been given options of former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, a former senator, Ben Obi and former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Ekweremadu to consider as his running mate as part of efforts to appeal to the South East geo-political zone.
The former Vice President has been an advocate of restructuring and has used that as his campaign focal point.
Those who are close to him told Elendu Reports that his choice of a running mate from the South East is to calm the nerves of the people of the region who he felt have been marginalized by other geo-political zones.
