The Federal Government has announced the extension of the suspension of the new electricity tariff by an additional one week.
The extension was made public on Monday, by James Momoh, the Chairperson of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
He made the announcement when the Ad-hoc Technical Committee on Electricity Tariff submitted its interim report at a reconvened meeting between the Federal Government and Organised Labour in Abuja.
The new tariff was earlier suspended for two weeks and ended at midnight on Sunday October 11, it started when the organised labour suspended their planned strike over agitation on the hike in fuel and electricity tariff on September 28,2020.
Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour and Employment heads the committee.
He is expected to examine and provide justification for the tariff increase which Labour and Nigerians have been strongly opposed to.
According to the NERC, the one-week extension is to enable the committee review and work out modalities for the implementation of the agreement reached on the electricity tariff structure.
