Delta State Governor, who doubles as Vice-Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, has described the latest attack and kidnap of passengers by gunmen at a train sub-station in Igueben, Edo State as sad and unfortunate.
He reacted to the attack in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba on Sunday, where he noted that activities of gunmen across the country had assumed a disturbing dimension.
He urged security agencies to immediately deploy its personnel to track the attackers of the train station and rescue the victims.
The vice-presidential candidate equally charged Nigerians to rise to the occasion by assisting security agencies with relevant information to enable the police unravel the culprits.
Okowa equally tasked the Federal Government to do away with its cosmetic approach to fighting insecurity in the country, stressing that the government should stop toying with the lives of citizens.
He said, “we should as a country be deeply concerned about the activities of armed groups and non-state actors trying to destabilise our nation”.
The latest attacks is believed to have over 30 persons as victims, some of whom were returning from the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Recall that the latest train attack in Edo State also comes few months after terrorists attacked a Abuja-Kaduna bound train where eight people were killed and several others abducted.
It took several months and intervention by government mercenaries for the victims to be rescued alive.
